Introduction

These tips have been collected from several replies to questions that have been asked several times on Rootsweb mailing lists to which I subscribe.  I hope they will be of some use.  If you have any problems, please feel free to contact me.

Help with Notts FHS Parish Record CDs

IMPORTANT - These notes apply only to version 1 of the CDs.  Later versions have an inbuilt viewer that do not require the use of any database software

"I've bought the Notts FHS Baptism (or Burial or Marriage or Census) CD(s) but I'm having trouble using them"

A number of comments such as this have appeared in letters sent to the NottsGen mailing list on Rootsweb.

To help those in trouble,  these pages have been put together.  The pages are illustrated using Microsoft Access, but any software capable of dealing with 350,000+ records at the same time is usable.

Please note, this means Microsoft Excel and Microsoft Works are NOT suitable.

The pages are illustrated with MS Access 2000 and MS Access 97, using the Baptism CD.  The differences between software versions and between CDs are small enough that it should not cause any problems to the user.  Please let us know if this is not the case.

I would like to acknowledge Brenda Bowker who put much of this information together.
