A view of the Edwardian period in the town of Fordingbridge, illustrated with verbatim extracts from the Salisbury and Winchester Journal, contemporary postcards
and other interesting material.
Over the past 21 years, Anthony Light and Gerald Ponting have added considerably to our knowledge of Fordingbridge and Breamore. Now, in their 17th publication about the area, they return to the format of their successful 1997 book, Victorian Journal – Fordingbridge 1837-1901.
The core of this book is a selection of verbatim extracts from contemporary issues of the local newspaper, supplemented by picture postcards and directory excerpts. As a reviewer of the previous book put it, this provides a view of history not influenced by hindsight. However, the authors have provided a thoughtful Introduction to the period and additional information in the captions to many of the photographs.
This new book has proved of great interest to all local residents.
