I have been involved in forensic or litigation support services for over 20 years.
In essence it has been a support service to firms of solicitors who require independent expert advice and opinion concerning their clients' cases.
Overriding that is a duty to the court to give impartial opinions.
In this field it is important to have had a good deal of all round practical experience rather than to have spent all of one's time writing reports.
Typical assignments have been advising on and preparing reports in respect of:
- commercial disputes
- breach of contract or warranty
- business interruption (loss of profits)
- valuation disputes
- personal injury or fatal accident
- matrimonial disputes
- professional negligence
- directors' disqualification.
I am happy to attend court and give evidence where required.
Most experts agree that it should never get that far and a well thought out and written report will go a long way towards avoiding it or at least reducing the time required and cost of attending court.
