Consultancy practice 1994 to dateTypical assignments have been:
- preparing expert reports for use in court actions
- attending court and giving evidence when required
- determining disputes as expert or arbitrator, under appointment by the President of the Institute of Chartered Accountants
- business valuations for various purposes
- developing plans for change, including relocation, expansion, downsizing, change in sales mix etc.
- advising on retirement, succession, disposals
- advising on rescue and recovery (in conjunction with insolvency experts)
- negotiating borrowing or credit facilities with banks and others, supported by business plans or funding proposal documents
- financial appraisals and healthchecks, and implementing recommendations
- implementing more sophisticated financial and management controls (e.g. cost and profit analysis by product or customer,
forecasting models,
management accounting and report formats,
daily/weekly/monthly profit reports and estimates)
- presentations at seminars or conferences.
Professional practice 1971 to 1994Technical skills - design and implementation of operating procedures for audit and accountancy work, at both local and national levels
- advising all national offices and partners on contentious issues
- providing firm's official policy and responses to draft regulations (e.g. company law, accounting standards etc.), serving on various committees
- presentations at seminars and conferences
- served on the local District Society Technical Committee and District Training Board
- widely read and educated as part of responsibilities to national firm and own development
Practising skills - wide range of experience as a general client partner, including: audit, accounts, tax, financial planning, business strategy and planning, corporate restructuring, flotations, acquisitions, mergers, litigation support, arbitration, valuation, court attendance as expert
- instrumental in setting up corporate finance and forensic accounting services, being the initial partner to lead those departments
- various arbitration or determination appointments by the President of ICAEW, or by solicitors, including attendance at court as expert witness.

- general partner (1983 to 1994) in Kidsons Birmingham office (100 staff), various posts including lead partner for IT, staff, quality control, corporate finance, forensic accounting
