LITTLE EGRET Egretta garzetta

Two flew eastwards towards the coast high over Carlton Marshes on the 4th.



PINK-FOOTED GOOSE Anser brachyrhynchus

One was with Greylag Geese on Oulton Broad on the 30th. Quite possibly the same individual that summered in the area in 2005.



DARK-BELLIED BRENT GOOSE Branta (bernicla) bernicla

One flew north past Kessingland on the 4th.



EGYPTIAN GOOSE Alopochen aegyptiacus

A group of 19 adults were at Oulton Broad on the 10th.



SHELDUCK Tadorna tadorna

Carlton Marshes - 3rd (2).
Lowestoft North Beach - 9th (12 N).
Kessingland - 5th (1 S).



GADWALL Anas strepera

Two flew south past Kessingland on the 1st.
One drake was on Leathes Ham on the 9th.



SHOVELER Anas clypeata

One drake was on Leathes Ham on the 1st and 9th.



TUFTED DUCK
Aythya fuligula

One drake was on Leathes Ham on the 3rd.
Two flew north past Kessingland on the 10th.



COMMON EIDER
Somateria mollissima

A first summer drake was on the rocks by the Kittiwake wall in Lowestoft Harbour on the 10th.



COMMON SCOTER
Melanitta nigra

Lowestoft North Beach - 9th (39 N).
Kessingland - 1st (8 S), 5th (3 N, 11 S), 8th (3 N), 10th (3 N, 3 S).



RED-BREASTED MERGANSER

One flew north past Kessingland on the 2nd.

One was seen at Rushmere on the 14th.

One was seen at Ashby on the 3rd.



HOBBY Falco subbuteo

One was seen between Ashby and Herringfleet on the 3rd.
Two were at Flixton Decoy on the 5th.
One was seen at Castle Marshes/North Cove on the 23rd.
One was seen at Herringfleet Hills on the 23rd.

GREAT SKUA Stercorarius skua

One flew north past Kessingland on the 5th.



MEDITERRANEAN GULL Larus melanocephalus

One first summer bird flew north past Lowestoft North Beach on the 9th.
One first summer was at Pakefield Beach on the 10th, possible the same as above bird.

SANDWICH TERN Sterna sandvichensis

Lowestoft North Beach - 9th (13 N), 11th (3 on groynes), 17th (7).
Kessingland - 1st (2 N, 4 S), 2nd (2 N, 2 S), 3rd (4 N), 5th (1 N, 1 S), 7th (8 N, 2 S), 8th (6 N, 4 S), 9th (3 N, 1 S), 10th (18 N, 21 S).



COMMON TERN
Sterna hirundo

Lowestoft North Beach - 9th (6 N + several local birds lingering).
At least 13 nests were apparent in just a small part of the roof nesting colony along Lake Lothing on the 10th.



ARCTIC TERN
Sterna paradisaea

Lowestoft North Beach - 9th (6 north together).



'COMMIC' TERN Sterna hirundo/paradisaea

One was very close inshore off Lowestoft North Beach on the 24th before paddling off south.

BARN OWL Tyto alba

One flew over the beer garden of The Plough public house in Blundeston on the evening of the 2nd. We'd only had one pint, honest!

Somerleyton - 21st (1).



TAWNY OWL Strix aluco

A family party of at least three juveniles were seen, and heard, at Somerleyton on the evening of the 15th.

Lowestoft North Beach - 9th (4 N).

Lowestoft North Beach - 9th (flock of 10 north).



YELLOW WAGTAIL Motacilla flava

One was seen at Kessingland on the 12th and 23rd.
Three were at Burgh Castle on the 15th.
A pair were see collecting food at Gisleham on the 30th, so at least one pair has bred in the area this year at least.



PIED WAGTAIL Motacilla alba yarrelli

22, including 16 juveniles, were foraging on a muck heap at Gisleham on the 3rd. But discouragingly no sign of any Yellow Wagtails.



GRASSHOPPER WARBLER Locustella naevia
Carlton Marshes - 3rd (2), 20th (3).
Fisher Row - 5th (2), 16th (1).



REED WARBLER Acrocephalus scirpaceus

Hamilton Road, Lowestoft - 3rd (1). A fog grounded migrant was singing from an Elder bush alongside Hamilton Dock.
Harbour Road, Oulton Broad - 10th one was singing from hawthorns bushes in a conifer hedge near the railway crossing.
Kessingland - 10th. One was singing from an oil seed rape crop at the south end of the bypass.
Ness Point - 11th. On singing from bushes in the Birds Eye car park.
Migrants are clearly still passing through and being grounded by the low cloud and fog.

Two were seen at Carlton Marshes on the 4th.

One was seen at Beccles Marshes on the 17th.

One was catching Frogs around a garden pond at Parkhill on the 21st.
