A group of seven were seen off Ness Point on the morning of the 28th and appeared to settle on the sea in the foul weather.

One male was seen over the marshes of Breydon South Wall on the 7th.

One was seen over the marshes of Breydon South Wall on the 7th.
One arrived in low off the sea at Ness Point at 19:00 on the 8th, escorted by assorted gulls, which were then joined by crows as it reached the coast. It headed south-westwards over the town and was then seen passing to the south of Oulton Broad at around 7:10, still heading south-westwards, and still with gulls and crows mobbing it. (Elsewhere in Suffolk on the 8th Ospreys were seen at Lackford at 12:30 and at Minsmere at 16:00)
HOBBY Falco subbuteo
Two were seen at Ashby on the 6th.
One was seen over the marshes of Breydon South Wall on the 7th.
One was at Beccles Common on the 13th.

GREY PARTRIDGE Perdix perdix
One was seen in a field near Corton sewage works on the 6th, with two there on the 14th.
COMMON CRANE Grus grus
At 8:15 on the 6th one was seen circling westwards between Lound and Ashby, it was soon lost to view behind woodland as it dropped lower towards the Herringfleet area.
At 10:50 it appeared again, this time at Lound Waterworks. It was on view for around ten minutes as it circled eastwards towards Hopton, before turning northwestwards towards Browston before again being lost to view behind woodland as it dropped lower.
Two were seen at Carton Marshes on the evening of the 29th.

One was on the South Flats at Breydon on the evening of the 21st. Relatively close, and with no heat haze for a change, but not really enough light for photos, but a record shot appears above.
It was present again on the 22nd up to around 09:00 and appears to have departed with group of waders that flew off high to the north.

One flew north past Ness Point on the 1st.
One dark phase bird flew north past Kessingland just after 17:00. It was also seen heading north off Ness Point at 17:15, where it paused briefly to accost a few terns, unsuccessfully, before continuing northwards.
Two (on dark phase, one pale) flew north past Kessingland on the 27th.
One pale phase bird flew north past Kessingland, and shortly afterwards also Ness Point, on the morning of the 28th.

Either a Short-eared or Long-eared Owl was battling south well offshore past Kessingland in the foul weather conditions on the 28th. It was gradually heading towards the coast probably to make landfall in the Benacre Ness area. A sight you more normally expect to sea in the autumn, although the cold wet blustery weather was much as you would expect in the autumn as well.

Three were over the Denes Oval on the 2nd.
The cold dismal weather was keeping birds away from the town in the first days of the month. Instead they were staying over the marshes where food is more concentrated at the moment. 350+ were over the marshes near Worlingham on the 4th.
The weather finally improved on the 6th and small numbers quickly appeared over the rooftops of the town, though they are far from settled in yet.

RED DEER
Two groups totaling 13 individuals were seen in fields in the Ashby area on the 6th.
CHINESE WATER DEER
One was seen at Carlton Marshes on the 20th.
MUNTJAC
Another "water" deer seen on the 20th was a Muntjac found swimming in the sea off Lowestoft South Beach. It was rescued by the RSPCA and released.
One was seen at Carlton Marshes on the 30th.
HARBOUR PORPOISE
Kessingland - 7th (1 N, 1 S).
GREY SEAL
Kessingland - 1st (1), 3rd (1), 6th (1), 7th (1).
GREY SQUIRREL
Hamilton Road - 22nd (1). Presumably prospecting for new woodland, though Lowestoft Harbour is not the best place to start!
At least three Red-eyed Damselflies were on the wing at Lound Waterworks on the 6th.
Glow-worm - Gunton Warren - May 2007- ©Andrew EastonA Glow-worm larva was found trundling very slowly across the path in front of Warrenhouse Wood at Gunton Warren on the 26th. Not having seen many before, and not in daylight, it came as a surprise to see it use its tail to give itself an extra push. It bent the last couple of segments forward and then pushed back into the sand to help it along in the manner of a looper caterpillar.
