Our Yoxall ancestors spent time in Staffordshire, England and then moved to Liverpool, but appear to originate in the county of Cheshire.

Sproston, where Peter Yoxall was born in April 1798, is a small village in Cheshire which is just north-east of Middlewich and now just west of the modern M6 motorway. Many of our Yoxalls where born and/or lived around this area. Peter Yoxall farmed at Sproston and records from 1839 show he occupied 14 areas of land both north and south of Holmes Chapel Road in Sproston. With additional records from the 1841 and 1851 census, we know that Peter farmed at Sproston from then until at least 1851. On the south side of Holmes Chapel Road currently stands Dairy House Farm which sits on land previously farmed by Peter Yoxall. Five to ten miles north-west is Northwich and also Davenham, where Elizabeth Manley, wife of Peter Yoxall was christened.

At least three generations of our Yoxalls lived in the area around Middlewich. Moses Yoxall married Elizabeth Lewis there in 1780 and is understood to have been born at Sproston about 1751. His children were born in the same area including Peter Yoxall mentioned above. Peter Yoxall's children were again born in this part of Cheshire including Thomas Yoxall who lived there until the middle of the 19th century.
