Stephen Conway's description of his own work:
"I try to give my bindings a tactile quality, something I feel to be in keeping with the three dimensional properties of the book format. Also, to give them an atmosphere, sympathetic to the text, through the use of colour, texture, materials and design. I am interested in allowing the container to become part of the work, giving the viewer a sense of involvement and anticipation. Another factor is the concept of producing the compete book through abstract/non-figurative art and music, and combining these elements to produce books that link design, sound and function."
