Christian Philosophy Conference

The Christian Philosophy Conference is an annual gathering, on a fairly informal basis, of people from a broadly Christian background who are interested in philosophy.

Meetings are held at Allen Hall in Chelsea, London or at St John's Seminary, Wonersh, Guildford (depending on numbers and availability of accommodation).

We meet from 4pm on the first day, to the evening of the second day.

Wide variety of membership...

The Conference is attended by people from all sorts of backgrounds, academic and non-academic, clerical and lay.

Its members include university lecturers, students, clergy, and people from many walks of life who are just interested in the subject. Some talks and papers are given by visiting speakers, others by members of the conference. There is also ample opportunity for discussion within a friendly and relaxed atmosphere.

...and of topics for discussion

Subjects are taken from branches of philosophy related to religion (such as ethics, philosophy of human nature, natural theology) and from areas in the history of philosophy.

Why do so many of our members come back year after year?

Mostly because they value the stimulus of discussion with fellow-enthusiasts, and appreciate the fact that debating is carried out in a manner which, even when critical, is always positive and helpful.

How much does it cost?

The cost will vary from year to year, depending on how much we are charged for accommodation, but on the basis of the recent meeting in January we would expect the cost of the next conference to be in the region of: £80 (residential), £65 (non-residential), including meals. This includes a 20 subscription charge, to cover speakers' expenses and administrative costs.

Next year's Conference

A programme, with further details and an application form is mailed during the Autumn Term to those on our list. A provisional programme will also be posted to this site as details become available.
