January 10 is our 9th anniversary! Singers evening. Can you believe it - Poppy's has been running for 9 years. Help us celebrate the occasion with some fun songs. February 14 Feature evening with George Wilson Originally from the North East, George has built quite a reputation for himself in the Southern Counties, performing both as a solo artist and with various other highly acclaimed musicians. He has also supported artists such as Show of Hands and Richard Thompson. His recent floor spot at Poppy's convinced us that we should invite him back to do an extended end of evening guest performance. March 14 Payne's People Gary Payne put on a wonderful evening of music last February - a real mix of people, musical styles and, of course, top quality performances. I'm sure this evening will be just as good. If last year's audience is anything to go by, we suggest you arrive early, otherwise you mightn't get a seat! April 11 Two Coats Colder This band played at Boars Bridge Festival last year - if you were present on the Sunday you will have heard them. Ray Taylor and Anna Bass were originally a duo but Two Coats has grown to be a 4 piece band. Their material includes traditional and self penned songs, beautifully sung and accompanied. Let's give a big welcome to this band on their first visit to Poppy's. May 9 Singers evening It's been quite a while since there was a singers night, so now is the chance for local performers to 'do their stuff'. June 13 Singers evening Date for your diaries: Boars Bridge Festival - 20, 21 and 22 June July 11 Singers evening AUGUST - CLOSED EVEN MORE BREAKING NEWS! HAVING BEEN SERVED NOTICE THAT THE FUNCTION ROOM WE USE FOR POPPY'S FOLK NIGHTS IS TO BE REDEVELOPED BY THE OWNERS TO BE USED AS A RESTAURANT AND FROM SEPTEMBER WILL NO LONGER BE AVAILABLE TO US, WE HAVE LOCATED A NEW VENUE! From September we will meet at the club house at the Blackwater Valley Golf Centre in Sean Deveraux Park - a few minutes drive from the old venue in Yateley. Post code is GU46 7SZ. There is a bar and Bistro 19 offers a selection of snacks - useful for people who come straight from work. Further details can be obtained from Kathy or Felix. September 12 In our new venue at Blackwater Valley Golf Centre, Singers night featuring Steve:Patrick:Lindsey Steve Spearing and Patrick Wass, regular performers at the club, bowled us over recently when they played together. Along with the third member of their trio, Lindsey, we have invited them to perform an extended set this evening. All 3 are excellent musicians and we know they will give us a wonderful performance. October 10. Jim McLean What can we say about Jim that we haven't said before? He's a great guitarist, singer, entertainer and friend of the club. But you know that already! It will be a popular evening and one you won't want to miss. November 14. Inside Out Trio Our old friends, Chris and Martin Cook, who used to be regular performers at Poppy's when they lived locally, are returning with their new bass player to play for us again. Their material varies from traditional to covers to self written songs. Check them out at their web page. December 5. Christmas Party We encourage performers to include something seasonal in their sets, but it's not compulsory! Come along and enjoy the party atmosphere.
