PROGRAMME FOR 2015

January 9 is our 'DÉJÀ VU NIGHT' 10th anniversary celebration

Can you believe it - 10 years already! To celebrate the occasion we have invited a number of people to perform. Each of these 'guest acts' will include at least one performer from the inaugural evening - hence the programme's name, 'Déjà Vu'. We will still be able to accommodate a limited number of floor singers, but let us know in advance if you wish to sing.

February 13 SALLY IRONMONGER and BRIAN CARTER
It's lovely to have back this duo from Kent. Sally is the main singer, while husband Brian, an accomplished guitarist, accompanies her and provides occasional backing vocals. Much of their material is self written and takes a wry look at life, with more than a hint of humour. We are pleased to include them on their 2015 club tour and look forward to hearing their new, recently released, CD.

March 13 PAYNE'S PEOPLE
Once again Sherryl and Gary Payne are providing a selection of musicians, from a range of musical backgrounds, to perform with them at Poppy's. This is always a popular evening and we recommend you get there early if you want a good seat!

April 10 Singer's Evening
It's been a long time since we had a 'singers evening'. On guest evenings it is frequently difficult to fit in all those who would like to perform. So, tonight, this is the chance for all you budding performers to come along and show us what you can do!

May 8 NO SMALL THING
For reasons beyond our control we can't have our normal club evening at the Blackwater Valley Golf Centre on 8 May and we are trying to organise another venue for that evening. For further details email Kathy.

Regulars to Poppy's will be familiar with the talented duo Steve Messenger & Liss Lynch who support the club when other musical commitments permit. Liss is a superb fiddle player and Steve is master of the guitar - be prepared for an evening of varied music, which could include anything from traditional tunes to modern and self written songs, presented by our featured duo.

June 12 Singer's Evening featuring BEARWOOD
This is another chance for local and/or visiting musicians to perform at Poppy's. We have invited the Bearwood Folk Trio (who are beginning to make a name for themselves in the area) to perform an extended spot at the end of the evening. Let's give them a huge welcome on their first official visit to the club!

June 19 - 21 BOARS BRIDGE FESTIVAL
Annual festival held at Tadley, Hampshire, details of the festival can be obtained from the website link above.

July 10th Singers evening
This is the last evening before the summer break, so let's make it a good one. All singers and instrumentalists welcome.

August: We're CLOSED!

September 11th Singers evening featuring GEOFF FOX
Lots of chances for floor singers to perform tonight! We've invited Geoff Fox to perform an extended end of evening spot. He plays with Paynes People when they come to Poppy's, but Geoff is an excellent musician in his own right. It will be lovely to have him back at the club again and to hear more of his music.

October 9th TWO COATS COLDER
When this 4-part band played at Poppy's in spring 2014 it was a pack out! Since then they have brought out their first DVD. They sing and play a range of musical instruments as well as writing much of their own material. We are delighted to welcome them back for what we know will be a wonderful evening of music.

November 13th JIM MACLEAN Note: change to previously advertised guest
Jim is always a popular performer at the club and we are pleased when he is able to fit Poppy's into his busy schedule, either as a floor singer or, as in this case, a guest. He is an excellent guitarist, singer, song writer and exponent of other people's songs. This is bound to be a busy evening - it would be wise to get there early!

December 11th Christmas party
No guest tonight - just talented local musicans, many performing material to suit the festive season (though it's not compulsary!). We will provide some food but a small contribution to the food table is welcome.
