Andrew Blundell has kindly supplied these transcriptions of the Balshaw entries in church registers from the area around North Meols. He is hoping to supplement this list and double check it in the near future (June 1999). He writes:
I transcribed from the microfiches taken from a printed transcription of the original records. However in case of any difference between the original entry and the one in the Bishop's Transcripts, the second is placed after the original entry between brackets [].
Page numbers are those in original manuscript, notation of dates is standardised but start of a new year is as in original manuscript.
In North Meols were many hamlets such as South Haw(e)s, Little London, Rowe Lane, Birkdale and Ainsdale. The absence of Crossens, Churchtown, Marshside, Banks etc. in this list shows that the Balshaw family in North Meols started in Birkdale/Ainsdale/Formby, (south of the parish centre in Churchtown) and never really got evenly spread over the whole parish. I noticed in the census returns there was still a concentration of Balshaws in Birkdale in 1851 and 1861. They were mainly farmers.

Haw(e)s is Old Norse for (sand)'hills'. Meols or Meolr is the Old Norse synonym for the same.
