The PIED FLYCATCHER influx continued with several more appearing through in to September.

A BLACK DARTER was found at Carlton Marshes on the 25th, and a LESSER EMPEROR and several VAGRANT EMPERORS were still present, though again in areas with no general access.

A male SOUTHERN MIGRANT HAWKER was photographed at Carlton Marshes on the 26th.

GREAT WHITE EGRET Ardea alba
Two were seen circling high over Waveney River Centre from Carlton Marshes on the 25th.



GREY HERON Ardea cinerea
Two flew high out to sea over Lowestoft North Denes on the 27th, with one turning back.



GLOSSY IBIS Plegadis falcinellus
Five flew south high over Ness Point on the 12th.

OSPREY Pandion haliaetus
On the morning of the 17th one was seen at Burgh Castle, with probably the same one later seen over Carlton Marshes before it ten headed south very high along the coast.
One flew west along Breydon Water on the 28th.
One flew south over Gunton Warren on the 31st.

On the dragonfly front VAGRANT EMPERORS and LESSER EMPERORS were still present at Carlton Marshes early in the month, mostly in areas with no general access, though a female VAGRANT EMPEROR was patrolling dykes by the scrape viewpoint on the evening of the 5th. RED-VEINED DARTERS also continue to be seen at Gunton Woodland Burial Field and Carlton Marshes as well.


A SWALLOWTAIL BUTTERFLY visited a garden in Burgh Castle on the 23rd. A HUMMINGBIRD HAWK-MOTH was at Mariners Score on the 30th.
