The shops in East Street are very little changed. On the left, Burnett, which sold a range of goods including hoops is now Tudor Rose Antiques.
The most obvious change is that the church, St Mary the Virgin, has lost its spire. The spire was added in 1827 by Charles Barry, who later built the Houses of Parliment. He re-built the church and replaced the earlier leaded spire with the octagonal structure seen in the old postcard. It was too heavy for the medieval tower and had to be removed in 1946.
