With
the arrival of the Lewes 'shuttle', provided by a two-car class
205, passengers make their way to the down platform to board 1318.
It is a tribute to the healthy traffic on the Lewes - Uckfield section that so many people endeavoured to use such a thoroughly rotten and inconvenient service right up to the end.
The slightly wider body (9'3" as opposed
to 9') of the class 205 stock can be clearly appreciated in this
view. It seems appropriate that we should include an archive photo
showing representatives of these classes alongside one another,
as between them they came to represent the 'public face' of the
Uckfield line for over 30 years.
