Uckfield to Lewes - in colour
Although colour films had been widely available
for over 20 years by the time the Uckfield - Lewes line was closed
in 1969, colour photographs of its last days had always eluded
us. Now, thanks to the generous assistance of John Wenham and
Eric Kemp, we are able to fill in an important gap in our photographic
coverage of the route.
A valuable record in their own right, these
previously unpublished photos help to remind us that far from
being some long-lost branch line that disappeared in the steam
age, this was a route that served Wealden travellers well into
'modern times'.
We believe that it can do so again.

The campaign would also like to express
its thanks to John Pollington for his assistance in scanning these
transparencies.
