A restored Wealden Line would effectively
provide two new routes between London and the South Coast, one
via Oxted and East Croydon, the other via Tonbridge and Sevenoaks.
Newhaven and Seaford, which currently have
a minimal through service, would be a natural destination for
new services on these routes. In addition, Eastbourne and Bexhill
would gain a practical diversionary route to London, as new travel
opportunities opened up between the Sussex Coast and the Weald.
