Birchden - April 2003

This view from April 2003, showing 205018 on its way from Oxted to Uckfield one Saturday afternoon makes for an interesting contrast with the earlier view, with new track and ballast, and much of the vegetation now cut back.

Rather surprisingly, the disused track seen in the 2000 view was not removed at this time, but instead was covered over with fresh ballast. The raised area thus left is clearly visible here.

It has been suggested that in future the Ashurst loop could be extended south past Birchden towards Eridge, providing a useful increase in operating flexibility. (Grid Ref. TQ 529 362)
