Burnt Oak -Burnt Oak is a small hamlet located between Crowborough and Buxted, deep in the Sussex countryside.
In this view northwards taken on 5 April 2003, two two-car class 205 DEMUs are seen heading south from Crowborough, East Sussex's biggest inland town, which has been deprived of a practical rail link to the coastal towns since 1969. With only one further stop before the end of the line and dubious bus connections onward to Lewes and the coast, there is ample accommodation available for the handful of passengers...
Having become double to the north of Buxted, the track remains double as far as Crowborough, climbing steeply towards the 1022 yard Crowborough tunnel. Immediately to the north of that station, it becomes single again until the Ashurst loop is reached. (Grid Ref. TQ 517 268)
