Groombridge - April 2003

The results of ill-planned housing development can be seen all too clearly in this view towards Tunbridge Wells. Rather than leaving the original double track route clear, lax enforcement of an agreed trackbed protection policy allowed houses to occupy the site of part of the down platform and all of the original site of the up island.

Fortunately, there is still just space for a revived service of through trains on this route, and further track slewing can do a lot to improve the alignment. (Grid Ref. TQ 533 371)
