A class 207 DEMU approaches Forge crossing, just to the south of the site of Birchden junction, as it heads south towards its next station stop at Eridge.

Although the track here appears to be double, all passenger services have used the former down line here since the 1990 singling.

Two years earlier, in 1988, the mileages on this section of route, which had been calculated from Brighton, were altered to "read" from London. (Grid Ref. TQ 533 352)
