Uckfield - Even before its closure, this Edwardian building had been semi-disused for many years, with dry rot already having gained a firm hold. After a further 10 years of complete disuse during which the fungi proliferated and it was the target of continual vandalism, the structure was sadly beyond economic repair.
Although the loss of this local landmark
is regrettable, its removal does leave the way clear for a new
through-station on the same site. Such a station, offering new
services to Tunbridge Wells and the coast , is a goal which the
campaign will continue to fight for. (Grid Ref. TQ 473 209)
