Tunbridge Wells West - After becoming heavily overgrown in the years following closure, recent civil engineering works designed to stabilise the cutting have again revealed the route of the railway, in this view of the western portal of the 183-yard Grove tunnel.
Contrary to what has been said by some commentators, unlike the nearby Hastings line tunnels, this structure has always been able to accomodate all types of rolling stock.
From here to the point where the route joins
the Hastings line at the site of Grove junction, there are no
significant obstacles to re-opening the route.
