Edenbridge Town - October 2000The 11.00 Uckfield to Oxted is about to leave on a mid-October day in 2000.
The train seen here, a Class 205 diesel electric multiple unit, was 43 years old at the time this photograph was taken. Together with its sister units, it is now the oldest mainline passenger stock in regular use on the national network.
As it pulled into the station, the photographer
was only able to count two passengers on this train: even though
it was an off-peak service, this must be a damning indictment
of the current state of the Wealden Line. (Grid Ref. TQ 446 466)
