Uckfield - As Uckfield has lacked any run-round facilities since the route was singled in 1990, and the test train itself lacked any driving cab, it was essential to position a class 47 at each end to ensure a safe return northwards.
With 47 734 at the Lewes end and 47 792 at the London end, the train crew are preparing to head back towards Oxted, and eventually the main line at South Croydon.
