Isfield - August 1976The view towards Uckfield from the south.
Located in the centre of the village at a road junction that had already grown surprisingly busy by the 1970s, Isfield station became by far the most visible local reminder of the lost rail link from Uckfield to Lewes.
While the buffer stops at Uckfield were almost out of sight, Barcombe Mills was down a quiet lane and the viaduct and bridges at Lewes soon disappeared, the nearly intact facilities here almost seemed to cry out for the track to be laid again.
The effect was enhanced because the station lies on the route of a popular local short cut from the north end of Uckfield to the A26 Lewes road -- and is also next to a bus route between the two towns.
