Barcombe
Mills - 1971A rare view of the station, taken during demolition operations early that year. The up line has already been dismantled and the rails have been left lying on the ballast; the up line will soon share its fate.
Note that apart from the removal of the signal arms, the signalling equipment here is still intact -- including the telegraph poles.
Even at this late stage, it would have been very simple to revive the route with a short connection to the Lewes - London route parallel to the former Hamsey loop. Sadly the opportunity was missed and local people have suffered the consequnces in terms of traffic congestion and frustrating journeys ever since.
