The photograph emphasises the very cramped location of this busy station, situated between two tunnels and crossed by a road bridge whose shadow falls across the front of the train.

Many people found the decision to concentrate all traffic on this station a very strange one, when Tunbridge Wells West benefited from three long through platforms, an easily accessible location and potentially offered a huge area for commuter car parking.
