A northbound train enters the station, crossing the main road of this quiet village, which has changed little -- apart from much increased road traffic -- in the 30 years since closure.

In a few weeks, the distinctive sound of these diesel units would be gone for good -- and with it a useful train service through the heart of East Sussex.
