Barcombe Mills - 1968

A Lewes bound train coasts across the level crossing into the down platform during the Uckfield-Lewes line's last summer of operation. Anyone heading for the coast by public transport the following summer would face a longer and much less convenient journey.

Along with its counterpart at Isfield, the signalbox here lasted until the end. Unlike at Uckfield, the gates here had to be operated by hand - there was no wheel to spin.
