Isfield - early 1970s

The view towards Barcombe Mills and Lewes on a wet winter's day. Apart from two short lengths built into the level crossing, all the track has now disappeared...

Yet it still seems quite easy to imagine a Victoria train hurrying through, or a Tonbridge train pausing for passengers...or perhaps one of the special expresses that used to run when engineering works closed the Brighton line.

Even as late as the winter of 1968, these trains using Hastings line stock sped passengers from the South Coast on their way to London.
