
BR made extensive use of the route for diversions from the Brighton line right up until closure, with the winter of 1968-69 being particularly busy. Because the route was not electrified, Hastings line diesel units were used for these services, providing a disinct improvement on the usual rolling stock.

at Lewes, the train will reverse to complete the final leg of
its journey to the coast.
