Tunbridge Wells West - July 1992Having been given a head start by BR's misguided policy of letting lineside vegetation grow -- which was later to cause serious leaf fall problems -- by the summer of 1992, trees in the cutting had grown up so much that it was hard to see the western end of Grove tunnel.
The roof and chimney of the house to the left provide a useful reference point in any comparsion with earlier views.
At a time when so much of the South East was being bulldozed for new road projects -- the massive A26 Boarshead scheme being a case in point -- it seems hard to believe that a railway serving a major town like Tunbridge Wells was allowed to decay like this.
Hard to believe -- but true
nonetheless.
