Tunbridge Wells West - July 1985

The fact that this gantry and the Southern Railway-built 'A' box in the distance were among the most 'modern' structures at Tunbridge Wells West tells its own story of the systematic neglect of the route under BR.

But despite what almost amounted to a deliberate policy of discouraging passengers, up until the end the route accounted for 700 journeys per day -- and the Transport Users' Consultative Committee which examined the closure proposal reccomended that the route be developed -- not closed.
