Tunbridge Wells West - July 1985

The view towards Grove Junction and Tunbridge Wells Central (the present day 'Tunbridge Wells') a few days before the end.

Note the severe temporary speed restriction -- as advertised by the warning board in the foreground -- and the poor condition of the trackbed, with very little ballast showing through all the mud.

Just visible to the right of this view is what was then the only colour light signal on either this route or the Uckfield line as far as Hurst Green; a fact that says a lot about BR's investment priorities.
