Groombridge - July 1985

A last look at the eastern end of Groombridge station, clearly showing the well-aligned double-track railway that was within a few days of being thrown away.

In engineering terms, it was in no way inferior to the neighbouring Hastings line.

The modern signalbox shown here had been disused since the closure of the Groombridge to Ashurst junction spur in 1969, having seen little more than 10 years' service.
