Eridge- March 1989

After some years of uncertainty about the future of the Uckfield line itself, it was finally decided to single the route -- a plan first mooted during the late 1960s.

By early 1989, preparatory work was well in hand at Eridge, with the removal of the up loop and its associated signalling. Without any trains terminating at the station, it was also possible to switch the box out for much of the time -- as seen here.
