Eridge - July 1985

Despite the heavy cuts made to East Sussex railways during the 1960s, Eridge's role as junction station for the Tonbridge service had ensured that it survived relatively unscathed, with no less than four platforms in use -- until July 1985 that is.

Although worsening speed restrictions and indifferent rolling stock meant the trains were slow, a well-coordinated timetable meant that the Eridge -Tonbridge service provided good connections for both south and northbound travellers.
