The Artist

Anthony Forster was employed by Royal Doulton of Nile street Burslem, Stoke on Trent, from 1959 to 1966 as a ceramic artist and for most of that time in the prestigious Royal Doulton flambe department. During his time with Royal Doulton he was an active participant in the Royal Doulton Art Society and was for several years a member of the hanging committee. He exhibited regularly in the Royal Doulton Art Society's annual exhibition and was often among the list of prizewinners.
His first major one man exhibition at the gallery of Hood and Broomfield in 1984 was opened by Sir Richard Bailey CBE, who was at that time the chairman of Royal Doulton.

Fine art, uniquely presented on Fine Bone China Picture Plates.

A comprehensive look at one artist's range of work, designed and produced to complement the marketing requirements of a major international corporation, expressed through one product range comprising three series, each containing four works.
The first four plates were produced in 1989 under the series title   "Village Life". These were so well received by collectors, that in response to popular demand a further four plates were introduced in 1993.   The theme was developed and the following year saw the introduction of another set of four, equally delightful, plates with the new series title of   "Farmyard Companions", adding to an ever increasing range of collectable representations of Forster's work on china. These last four were recently published by Hood and Broomfield, introducing their "Signet" series of fine art prints.
The book by Michael Doulton  ... "Discovering Royal Doulton"  Published by Swan Hill Press   ISBN 1 85310 343 8   and available here from both   Amazon.com & Amazon.co.uk   shows the 2nd. set of   four plates, and comments on the long-standing association that Forster has had with the firm, having at one time been an artist in the prestigious and world famous "Flambe"  department at the Nile Street works in Burslem, Stoke-on-Trent.

The 12 plates can be viewed here via "The Collection Index" page. Each plate is accessed by a click-able cameo icon and is shown in its own individual html page environment. This provides a fast and easy method of full screen viewing, at the same time giving on-screen access to the plate's full size back-stamp and two or more enlarged cameo portions via appropriate image hot-spots.

Collectors please note: Though this range of Doulton plates is no longer in production, it can still be found, and sometimes in the most unlikely places.
Prices will almost certainly be higher than the £24 price tag they carried at the end of 1999
