Planning for the 'Worst Case Scenario' - the "Happy Pessimist"!
I've unashamedly nicked the "Happy Pessimist" tag-line from Malcolm Palmer of Cooper Bike Training, because it perfectly encapsulates the idea of dealing with the "Worst Case Scenario" as the key to
planning your ride.
"adjusting your speed to the view available" is very definitely is NOT the same as "adjust your speed to the worst case scenario that may be out of sight" which is a key part of my
training. If you set your speed by the VP on the way in without considering how it might get worse, then you'll probably be entering too fast and adjusting speed "to the view" simply has you
decelerating thru a decreasing radius bend which is in defiance of the stability law, which says "power gently thru the corner", the point I made months ago with the diagram I spent a long time
drawing. The correct solution is NOT to alter speed but to change lean angle, which leads back to a cautious entry speed based on the VP plus Worst Case...
