Survival Skills Rider Training is a
motorcycle training school run by BTEC-qualified instructor with over 30 years of professional riding experience, Kevin Williams, and specialising in post-test, advanced & online
motorcycle rider training.
Survival Skills has been running since 1996, was one of the very first schools to offer flexible but structured advanced rider training courses aimed at the
differing needs of newly qualified riders, returning riders and experienced riders and is probably the first to
offer e-learning courses.

Scheduled advanced rider training courses run from Kent, Oxford & Northern France, and several times a year Survival Skills goes "on tour" to locations like
Devon, Wales and Yorkshire.

"Ordinary" training? Well the days in France are Extraordinary Training – it's a lovely day out, apart from an opportunity to practice skills on the "wrong" –
sorry, right – side of the road". (Barbara Alam April 06)
Bespoke training can be arranged anywhere in the UK - we've run advanced courses on the Isle of Man, in Southern France and Portugal.
e-learning courses are available to anyone - log into our e-learning centre for details.
Our Advanced Rider Training Courses are suitable for ALL full licence holders from newly qualified to highly experienced!

"I was at the Warren doing BikeSafe today. Have to say it was a great day (if a bit damp – but I can't blame the guys for that) and a great refresher for
Kev's training. Wayne recommended I do IAM/ROSPA based on what he saw today, i.e. he was very pleased ("best rider this year") and I owe it to Kev - thanks, mate." (Stephen June 07)
Riding Assessments
are also available for just £50.
Group Training in advanced techniques is also available for clubs and small groups of friends.
Survival Skills is an approved trainer and assessor for Buckinghamshire County Council
Scheduled daytime courses run from 1 March to 31
November, including most weekends. Short evening sessions are available May to August to take advantage of the long evenings.
Survival Skills is closed for training from December to the end of January.
We look at practical skills like braking and countersteering,
swerving and emergency stops, lines and cornering, using a riding system, overtaking and slow control.
But importantly we look at road sense, hazard awareness and risk assessment/management. Most of all, we teach Survival Skills - a pragmatic approach
to riding that accepts that everyone - ourselves and other riders included - make mistakes.
I swear that Kevin is the most sensible talking, straight-up, common sense biker I've ever seen in 20 years... I stop and listen when he's on. I might
learn something that will save my life even if I consider myself very experienced. (Mark, February 2006)
Advanced riding isn't just mastering mechanical skills. By learning how and why road users foul up, we'll have a better understanding of where accidents
happen. Knowing that, we can learn to avoid those situations, and so ride with less risks and also have more fun where it's safe to do so.
By using a combination of structured training and fault
-fixing coaching based on riding assessments, our on-road advanced training is flexible and personalised, and will offer new ideas for you to try as well as the opportunity to
fix existing problems, using modern training aids like portable video presentations, radios and on-bike video. Most courses are a mixture of theory and discussion sessions, mixing
practical riding tuition with exploring theory.
I definitely like to know the why/how. The thing is, riding seems to be a balance of positions that are all relative, for example there's too slow/fast, too
much/little throttle, too gentle/harsh, front/rear, too close/far from... Everybody seems to have their own approach to riding, and it takes time to
find safe/effective positions for yourself. The approach you teach helps because you declare a positive position, and can back it up with a 'why' I can agree with and work with. (Bev, June 07)

Basic training is just that. It's good enough to get you mobile on two wheels and keep you generally safe. But there's a lot more to getting the most out of your bike.
Survival Skills advanced motorcycle training helps you do that.
When we're not training, you can join one of our ride-outs.
No training, just fun riding with Survival Skills Back in May '08
