| Competition Winner!! Prize-draw win leaves Swarthmore students sitting comfortablyStaff and students at a Leeds education centre will soon be learning in comfort and style thanks to a local furniture-recycling social enterprise. Re-Work Office Furniture, a social enterprise which sells high-quality office furniture from its base in Hunslet, south Leeds, recently organised a prize draw for local charities and social enterprises, The first prize, £1000 of office furniture, was won by the Swarthmore Centre. Other prize-winners included Rothwell Live at Home, a charity which works with older people in the area, who won a design-and-print stationery package donated by Oakwood-based Printing.com, and Kids United at the Burley Lodge Centre, who won £100 of fairtrade supplies from Leeds-based tea and coffee wholesalers justcoffeepeople. Caroline Wherritt, 27, the founder and Chief Executive of Re-Work, said “Since we set up our social enterprise earlier this year, charities and voluntary organisations have been amongst our most loyal customers. So we thought we’d organise a prize-draw just for them. We’re delighted that Swarthmore have won the prize – as we know that this amount of furniture would probably cost them around £3000 if they were to buy it new.” Re-Work takes donations of office furniture from local businesses and other organisations, and sells them on at prices which are typically less than half that of new office furniture. Caroline said “We have all sorts of customers – from charities to small businesses, to people setting up an office at home and entrepreneurs just starting out. Schools also buy a lot from us. She continued “Buying from us makes sense financially – but obviously it makes environmental sense too, as we’re stopping perfectly good furniture from going to landfill.” |
