I always try and come up with a witty word to sum up the day (what you mean you never noticed!) Well here is todays...
WET WET WET WET WET WET WET !!!! ERM it rained more than a little... OK OK OK It Peeed down all meeting !!! I haven't been as wet since last Tuesday - when I went to the swimming baths.. Only then I had shorts to wear and it was warm in the pool.. But I digress.. Camera one died after a good soaking , all tho I'm not sure if the two films I took turned out at all.. Things were a little steamed up in my camera and the third roll I took from the hip - Not looking thou the viewfinder as I couldn't see anything... Should be interesting to see what I took :)) .. Or maybe not :) The racing was a little soggy and the track looked like that Olympic Pool that that Thorpedo had done so well in recently ...
The day was also tinged by some bad accidents - the worst being that of 315 Simon Ollerenshaw in the bangers , who had to have the roof cut off his very squashed Grannie, his head was covered in bandages with both eyes covered.. Blood was also in plentiful supply , it was not nice to see and I hope that Simon is not too badly hurt and will be back soon ,(UPDATE
UPDATE UPDATE >>> Simon is Ok hes gone home with a few stitches... So he will be back soon :)) unlike the Levellers car 300 driver who showed no compassion it what he had caused and I hope will NEVER be allowed back at Warton. He had steamed into Simon so hard that his car , car 300 , completely left the ground as Simon was splatted in the pit corner.. I got it on film , I think - a hip shot !! (UPDATE UPDATE >> I got a blurry head :((( ) .. So look at the wreck of car 512 from the championship meeting and triple the damage on that car .. Times it by an hundred , double it and you might be close !!!
My notes got so wet that I cant read them that well , so bear with me as I tell you what happened on the track .... WELL
the MiniStox had a day off and were in Junior Bangers instead.. 440 Ant was back in his battered Metro... They as in Jemmy , 44 Ste Smith and many others only got it going just before the first race.. Heat One 27 starters and the first corner and Ant was out thanks to 342 Dan Wrennall, and to think I liked his driving.. Ant was spun by Dan then hit head on by A N Other... The dizzy shattered and the rotor arm was destroyed , as was Ants day at racing.... The race continued and a massive Warton Crush occurred at the exit of the pit corner .. Chaos ensued as some cars bashed their way thru and others cut on the infeild .. A big No No at Warton.. so after a while , the red flag came out and the race was called.. 293 got first place.. 888 Anthony Kerr had a dream finish with second , a great start to the day for him..Third was given to 889 (There were more than a few day racers today - Inc. Ant who had forgot his years licence and I had to pay the day rate for him to race ! (for half a lap !!)) Heat Two 16 starters , a load like Ant never made it out again..665 Paul Pennington , son of 666 Andy, had a better run in this heat , he finished.. To be fair his car was not that fast , blew a piston or something in the practice so could only muster about three miles a week.. But car 889 had a good run and took the win with 207 Chris Yeates getting second , 555 Martin (does my new haircut make me look hard) Yeates getting third in his recycled banger.. 13 cars came out for the Final ... and I stopped the race !! There was some spinning and smashing next to the mound I was stood on , and 888 Anthony Kerr blasted up onto the infeild past me and came to an halt.. Nothing happened for a few seconds so I came off my mound and had a look to see if he was OK .. He was in a bad way and didn't even acknowledge I was there , as we are mates , I figured that he needed attention , I'm smart me you know.. So I got the attention of a Marshall , the red flags came out and I was usured away.. UPDATE He is bruised but will be back soon :)) in his Ministox , not an Ambulance... A
result was given 164 first , 555 Martin (well it makes me do better) Yeates second and 186 third.. That was that for the
junior bangers as all the Grand National races were cancelled due to the water filled track..
Unlimited Minis had a wet un too , I know every one did but these guys just seemed to make more waves (of the tidal kind)
Car 15 - the one with the odd bars at the front was back sounding better than ever , but didn`t seem to have the power.. Heat one heat two and the final were all won by the flying 44 Ste Smith , in heat one he lapped all but the top six drivers.. and to think that his father was on holiday and Ste only got to race thanks to his mate David Eccles 62 , bringing his car down.. Dave did'nt have such a great day , although his tackle was not further damaged by any crashes , he also complied of a sore rib from last meetings accident.. Dave however got a third in heat two . Shaun Yeats 26 , had a good day with second in heat one and the final . 166 Simon Swarbrick also enjoyed it in the wet getting third in heat one and one better in heat two.. That woman 165 Joanne Cleece (a regular correspondent in my Guestbook) had me pulling out my hair , she kept
hitting the massive puddle on the far corner , leaving a lovely arc of water behind her .. But when I followed her to get the shot, she missed the puddle... This went on for two heats until I managed to get it ... Only my camera was waterlogged by then so I don't know it it came out or not yet !!! Women really !!
Super Bangers and there were two absentees , can you guess who ??? I will tell you later. Heat one and heat two and great wins for 100 Ann Potts.. The BMW of 88 John (888 Anthony's dad) Kerr needs some more work , but looked good .. 439 Jay (cousin to who??) Kellett got second in heat one and heat two , the second heat being the one which caused some concern for 135 in his Escort. I saw the end of the accident when 217 Dave Worrall slid hard into the back of what seemed a stricken Escort , in fact I thought that the Marshall already had the red flag in his hand , but had not shown it.. It looked like the driver of 135 Sean McNally was to be cut out , but he was helped out first and taken away in the ambulance..UPDATE - Last one :)) Hes Ok and will be back racing soon too , It had been busy day for the St. Johns Ambulance , thank goodness these folks are here. Anyway Sean I wish you well .. The Final was a better race all round , and I'm sure the winner was a happy person , unfortunately the rain had well and truly got my program wet and I can't read the results ... Did I mention it rained today ? -- Hmm I thought I had :) Anyway well done you , and you in second and third :))
Stock Cars . I was worried on how these cars would cope with the weather , but they did very well. It was fun to see them slide into the corners , brakes locked , and powering thru the corners and away , a lovely fountain in their trails.. Heat one and a great lead for almost all the race for 38 Christopher Alderson (the Millom Gold top I was informed) until the last lap when 90 Steve Green got thru after Chris was held up by a back marker and on the next corner Chris got stuck under another car 2 smudge smudge !! (That blinking rain !!!) The win was taken by 90 Steve Green and second by 5 Jonathan Clarkson with 65 Nathan Lawson third. Heat Two and would you believe it .. 38 had the lead till the last corner and that Steve Green got past for the win again - greedy so and so :)) From the 15 starters in heat one we went to 9 in the final and in the biggest track puddle ever , three cars disappeared in the spray.. two escaped but 317 got high n dry , Billy (I don't want to change the world) Bragg had a very expensive see saw - he was rocking his car on the wall like a good un...
But What of the bangers ??? WELL ....Click here to find out :))
