13-08-2000 Team Championship Sponsored by BLITZ! International & Steeles Removals.... 01229 0820737
Oh my God ... What a meeting that was :)  We had it all ,except Carls' commentary :)      Red flags , Black Flags and yellows a plenty ... Team Snork and that other site had a team too , we had three members , they had four , but I was still
confident :)  Blitz had a tent selling mags , videos and the weirdest model cars I have ever seen .. done up as bangers with damage at the front , or a transporter full of cars... They looked very good ... for kids.A great turnout of spectators with the field being used as an overflow car park for the first time this year.. The weather was great all morning with only light
drizzle early in the afternoon but during the DD the heavens opened ... for the first time this season... must have been for the Scots , who like it wet , racing too :)  Super Banger  217 Dave Worrall was so keen to race he got up at 7:30 to load up his car and get here on time... Unfortunately the Super Bangers were having a day off , the Unlimited Minis were the support class this year .. Hee Hee .. And what a day the Unlimited Minis had , 62 David Eccles had borrowed a car for today , as his is awaiting a new engine , from 928 Eamonn Howard , who by his own admission had had limited success in it. The number was masked by err masking tape and 62 painted on it -- looked really good ... well tacky to be honest :)  The races were
between the rounds of banger racing and went very well . Especially for Dave as he won Heat One after 26 Shaun Yeats lost a wheel while he was leading. Heat Two had another Titanic battle for the lead between Dave and his mate 44 Ste Smith , both kept grabbing the lead off each other at what seemed like every corner but Ste got the win... It was such a good race that the other photographers in the infeild got their cameras out for the Final.. Four abreast down the start finish straight and another big fight for Ste , this time for 3rd & 4th with 134 Alex Chapman . Dave held off Shaun , now with the normal 4 wheels , to take the win , Ste was forth behind Alex.. All in all these little beasts , the cars not the drivers , gave a really good show and as close racing as I have ever seen at Warton....
But lets be honest ... Your reading this for the Banger report !!!  Where does one start ???  Lets just say that there were more bent cars than straight ones by the second round ( a bit like a Madi Grais) 25 teams all turned up , some very late.. each with 4 cars , except my Team , called Team Snork (took me ages to think of that) . My favourite turned out cars were the Blooz Boys (teams a,b and c)  -The official winners of best turned out team was The Mob 'A' - 431 Deano Steele made a welcome return to Warton in the defending Champion team BLITZ! Magazine with his brother Dan and Simon Whant and Dave Knight. I must have been the only 'Team owner' who had never met his team till the race day .. Black, white, black paint job (like old American Police cars) two Ladas and an Montigo (I think) drivers being Mike Driver, Sam Begley and Paul Robinson with guest driver Graham... Team tactics were , well non existent... But all I said was "enjoy yourselves and give `em (as in everyone) hell !!!"  ERM well we learn from our mistakes :)  Heat One and I had two cars out and 21 cars in total were ready to rumble. Green flag / red flag .. well it wasn't that quick but it felt like it.. Panic over, after a massive pile up in the pit corner , inc. a great jacking of 330 his Lada estate not lasting that long , as its rear axle was halfway down the car a la the Metros earlier in the year !!! My two heroes were out too , but they were safe and had enjoyed themselves !!! the win had been taken by 510 Alan Lewis of Team v 'A'..206 Terry Pinches grabbing second for Blooz Boys 'A'. Heat Two and another quick red flag... That pit corner had yet another massive pile up , the drivers in heat two not slowing down at all for the corner.... or turning either.... 133 burst into flames , well the engine did, we had a restart and after some fantastic
action 431 Dean Steele stormed in for the win for BLITZ Mag with 551 Simon Whant making it a BLITZ one two... That other Warton site faired aswell as me in the first race with no finishers :) . Heat Three and things got heated , I noticed two cars having a head to head , at low speed, before the green flag. They both got Black flagged and almost ended up brawling on the infeild... one car was a Blooz Boy (Mr Bale) and they had a day of getting into trouble , from other cars in some war we were not privy too and with the marshals . 05 Carlos Perez of (oh got a black flag , which he totally ignored , twice , along with 827 Nogger Hopkins of the made up name team (err that's Flying Squad 'A' ..Ed) for scrapping and ignoring red flags.. a common problem in the first few races..An ambulance was called upon for the Jokers 183 Damien Brown , who after
mounting another car , landed awkwardly  causing him some distress and injury ( all the best matey) . A Mr D Steele won the heat (Dan this time) for the defending champs with 160 Neil Loftus , for some second rate Website , getting second...apt
really  and a fluke too ... :P . Heat Four and a massive wrecking train , containing 728 Paul Robinson of TEAM SNORK .. so no points for us :(  but loads of major action from those Blooz Boys again in the middle of all the action... only TWO finishers , from 24 starters !!! 48 Kevin 'Scouse' Chadwick , The Headbangers, and 88 Wayne Muppet (er Morphet  Ed) from Levellers 'A' ..  Next up the first Consolation with a massive 36 cars out , they were split into two and off we went... 211 Craig Farrell from , yes the Blooz Boys 'B' this time got walloped into the infeild .. The Invaders had an hero in 512 Allan Woods and his spunky little Lada , which despite looking like it was about to snap into two , still went round hitting anyone who got in the way .. hard !!! Twas great fun to watch... 519 John Woods got the win for the Invaders after 514 Paul Woods wrote his car off by hitting a car while leading for most of the race...yep this race was Invaded by the Invaders'  That little beat up Lada got third , behind 50 , another wreck for Jamie Latham who's back end of his car was more than a tad reshaped , the rear drivers wheel was pinned to the track , burning rubber and very flat , by the bodywork of the car.. very funny to watch .. no others finished this race.. The other half of the original field lined up , with some late entries from the pit, for the second consolidation. Again we had cars going under others and the Blooz Boys getting hit all over the track. 942 John Dixon , Team V 'B' got the win 81 Andrew Benn , Levellers 'B' , grabbing second. It seemed that amongst others that other Warton Site team had got its way into the A Final , and boy didn't I know it... My team had errr no points, and only 1 car still running. The Warton Web Page site team had to swap out a five speed gearbox and drive shaft , for a four speed... They did it and the Capri was out for the final , with all its teammates... but it was not to last.. One of their cars was hit hard and facing me the driver looked unwell , I was trying to get his attention to see if he was Ok when he looked up and braced himself... Whack !!!!!!!! him and his car disappeared from my view as a green bullet , Capri driven by 88 Wayne Morphet , took the car round the corner . It was nasty and the race was stopped.. He seemed Ok but VERY shook up , he will be stiff for a week , at least ! The race restarted and all the Warton team were totally destroyed , what a shame :)) But 431 Deano Steele kept out of trouble , and took the win. The Steeles enjoyed the fact that there were so many other battles going on that they had a pretty free run ... 17 Nick Sweet from Northern Krew got second (awww sweet)  CLICK FOR MORE
