.Section 1: Original Correspondence/letters involving the defunct Newport County AFC

Abbreviations/notes:

APFL = Alliance Premier Football League, NCAFC = Newport County AFC, PFA = Professional Footballers' Association, P Hunter = Secretary of the Vauxhall Conference Vaux Conf = Vauxhall Conference..

 

Item no 1: Letter to NCAFC from Vaux Conf on coloured headed paper dated 9.8.88 signed in ink by P Hunter re the return of a £25 cheque sent by NCAFC as an appeal fee after an alleged illegal approach by Weymouth for NCAFC's Robert Taylor. This item also includes carbon copies of previous correspondence between NCAFC and Vaux Conf re this matter and a letter from Weymouth FC to NCAFC on coloured headed paper and signed by Weymouth secretary apologising for the illegal approach. (6 pages in total) (£150),

 

Item no 3: A 1-page letter (typed and signed in ink) dated 2.5.88 from Terry Conley (previously of Man City and Bolton and manager of New Zealand in the 1982 World Cup Finals) to NCAFC applying for the post of NCAFC manager after their relegation to the Vaux Conf, (£150),

 

Item no 4: Letter from Facer Publishing to NCAFC signed in ink by Rachel Baron of Facer Publishing and dated 28.3.88 on coloured headed paper re NCAFC's entry in the 1988/89 Official Football League Yearbook asking for club information. (£75),

 

Item no 5: A telex from NCAFC to the Football League dated 25.3.88 re the signing of McCoy, Griffiths and Evans, and asking the Football League to "send a cheque for £2,000 out of Scarborough transfer money to Frickley Athletic FC". (£150),

 

Item no 6: A telex from NCAFC to the Football League dated 24.3.88 asking the Football League "to register non contract players Mark Price, Mark Rowlands and Gareth Jones with NCAFC". (£150),

 

Item no 7: Hand-written VAT receipt from Sondico International Ltd to Mr Paul Bradshaw c/o NCAFC re the purchase of 6 pairs of goal-keeping gloves and asking for a further outstanding £3 to be paid. Also included is a delivery note on Sondico International paper. (2 items in total) (£75),

 

 Item no 8: A list of "Players Fines As And From 1st November 1987" outlining the fines for lateness, foul and abusive language, retaliation, dissent, fighting etc on official coloured NCAFC headed paper. (£120),

 

  Item no 9: A list of "Disciplinary Procedures" (different to Item no 8) dated 23.2.1987 on NCAFC official coloured headed paper (this headed paper is slightly different to all the others listed in this catalogue as it has "Welsh Cup Winners 1979-80" and "Promoted to Division 3 1979-80" at the bottom) and signed in ink by Player/manager John Lewis, There is a diagonal line across the page in pencil. (£150),

 

Item no 12: An APFL "Registration Form For A Player Not Under Written Contract" with details for Dean Boughen in season 1988/89. Although this form has the player's personal details (such as home address) typed on it and the words "Newport County" typed in the relevant places, the form has not been dated or signed. (£60),

 

Item no 14: Press Release dated 2.11.1988 titled "County Cans For Christmas" re admission charges to the forthcoming game against Telford being "cans of food" which will be distributed to the community in time for Christmas. This item is typed and on NCAFC headed paper. (£40),

 

 Item no 15: A typed letter dated 17.9.88 on "HM Prison Service Memorandum" coloured headed paper from S.C. Walters at H.M.P. Wormwood Scrubs to NCAFC asking if it would be possible to arrange a game between NCAFC and the prison team. This item is signed in ink by S.C. Walters. (£150),
