7th February 2011: Wow! I took the little Bookworms to Newcastle v Arsenal on Saturday. 8 goals, warm weather, Premier League history made. An amazing day.

*** More advanced warnings. Next week (14th Feb onwards) is a school holiday here in the Borders so opening hours will be erratic / unpredictable!! Please phone me first if you’re planning on coming to the bookshop!

January 29th 2011. Advance warning that the shop will be closed next Saturday (5th February). Also may I repeat my appeal for any unwanted archery equipment. Carol and I completed a beginner’s course before Christmas and have just joined a wonderful archery club so now we need to get some equipment!!

January 28th 2011. Wow! People actually read this section!!!! I wasn’t sure but today a couple travelled down from Galashiels and produced a copy of my “10% off offer”!! Many thanks for coming down. I hope you get a pleasant surprise reading this!

JANUARY 2011: Happy New Year!! Not sure where the past seven weeks have gone!! The weather meant we were shut for most of that time but we are now open again!!! For the rest of January, anyone reading this page can get 10% off all orders in the shop if they quote this message when you get here. (Carol knows nothing about this offer so it’ll be worth quoting just to see her face).

Is there anyone out there into archery? I’m trying to get hold of a couple of recurve bows and related accessories / equipment. If you have any you no longer want please get in touch!!

December 5th 2010

I finally managed to dig the car out of the snow today and get to the shop. I even cleared a path to the shop’s front door. Therefore I should be up and running again tomorrow (Monday) for the start of the Christmas Sale!!

December 3rd 2010

Well, December was supposed to be a special “20% off everything in the shop” sale bu the weather has been atrocious for the past week. We’ve had over a foot of snow (see my Twitter page for a pic) and so I haven’t been able to get to the shop to open it! If anyone near Kelso has a 4x4 and wants an hour to themselves at the shop feel free to phone me and collect me from Kelso!!

October 31st 2010

I have decided to try and add some instant “Buy It Now” buttons to the websites. This may take some time as adding one button to each individual item may take years! I’m experimenting with the www.vhsheaven.co.uk website to begin with, in particular the music videos page. After adding the first few buttons it seems to work perfectly on Google Chrome but not on Internet Explorer for some reason. If there are any technical experts out there who may be able to shed some light on this problem I’d be eternally grateful!!! Also, if you want to buy one of the videos using the “Buy It Now” option, please try Google Chrome for the time being!!

October 14th 2010

Thanks to all the people who have recently been visiting the shop after discovering us on Twitter!

October 10th

Mrs Bookworm is on the road to recovery. The little Bookworms have taken over her shop (!) and it’s now looking great, with many old children’s books and random collectables! I’ve now started two more websites: www.vhsheaven.co.uk for lots of old videos and www.footballfanzines.com for what is possibly the world’s biggest selection of football fanzines!

September 16th

Mrs Bookworm has been in hospital for most of the past two weeks after a routine operation on her knee went a bit wrong!! Thanks to everyone for their goodwill messages. Also, thanks to the person(s) who sent me some minty rock from the West Midlands Wildlife Park.

We’re still on the lookout for more Garfield figures, chess books and magazines, old “Roy of the Rovers”, “Scoop!” and “Shoot” comics.

August 31st

The Scottish Borders has an art trail called Crossing Borders running this weekend from Friday to Sunday where lots of local artists / sculptors etc show off their work. The only reason I mention this is that next door to our shop we are fortunate to have Graeme Walker who will be showing off his blacksmith skills. (We’re lucky enough to watch him make some of his amazing huge commissioned pieces of work from start to finish) and we would strongly recommend a visit!!

August 26th

Please note that the shop will be closed tomorrow (Fri 27th).

July 30th

The holidays are here. We’ve managed to keep the little bookworms occupied by going karting and by spending a day at a wildlife park. Also, we have had a lovely mention in Scottish Field Magazine where we’ve been listed in the top ten Scottish Bookshops!!!!!

Still the books pour in as well as out!! We now have more books than ever sitting on our shelves! Please drop in!!

May 24th 2010

Just a quick note to let you know that the books and videos on this website are a TINY sample of what is in our shop. We have THOUSANDS of books in the shop with hundreds added to the shelves every week!

May 2010

If you’re visiting Kelso for just a few hours, outside our regular opening hours, we are happy to open the shop just for you! Give us a call on 0775 1060534 or 01573 224042 to arrange. Already, we have opened the shop for people from Ayrshire and Yorkshire who knew they’d be passing through Kelso on a Sunday and late one evening.

April 30th 2010

We shall be open on Bank Holiday Monday from 10 – 12.30.

April 2010

Carol’s just opened her own shop next door to mine!! She is specialising in old children’s books, small antiques and collectables and anything else that takes her fancy. Now you can visit two shops at the same time! Opening hours for the bookshop for April are our standard hours as below. Carol’s shop isn’t open quite as much so phone for details if coming out specially! However, if you are travelling to the Borders for any reason we are happy to open the shop at other times too, even Sundays and late evenings. Feel free to call on 01573 224042 or 0775 1060534 to make arrangements. **GARFIELD UPDATE**** We now have lots. Thanks to everyone who has brought them in or sent them in. Now parents can browse through the shop whilst their children see if they can count all the Garfields hiding round the shop. A correct total gets a prize…..

February 27th 2010

Follow us on Twitter and then get 10% off all purchases in the shop when you come to the shop during March!! Also, weather permitting we are now back to our regular opening hours as below.

JANUARY 8th 2010

Whilst the bad weather is here our opening hours will not be as advertised!! If you want to make a trip to the shop please send me an email, phone me on the mobile (0775 1060534) or send a Tweet via Twitter for the very latest info!!

You can now buy thousands of our books instantly by debit / credit card via our sister website at www.founditatlast.co.uk via Abebooks’ secure payment system!!

NOVEMBER 24th 2009

Still not sure if anyone reads this page!! Anyway, tomorrow (Wednesday) is our first birthday. I can’t believe we’ve had the shop for a year. So, IF you read this page you can have a 20% discount on any purchase over £10 in the shop tomorrow afternoon IF YOU MENTION HAVING READ THIS!!!!!!!

NOVEMBER 23rd 2009

We shall be trying to open from 5.00 – 8.00 on Christmas Eve for you to buy those last minute pressies. We have thousands of old and new books on many subjects as well as thousands of fiction books. There is also a large number of videos on many subjects so you’re sure to find something!!

SEPTEMBER 28th 2009

I’m not sure if anyone ever reads this page so please drop me a line if you do. Anyway, for anyone reading this today (Mon 28th) you’ll have an exclusive. I have just written to someone famous to see if I can get a plug for the shop and website. I doubt there is a cat in hell’s chance of a reply from them, let alone any help, but as soon as I get a reply I’ll post it here!

AUGUST 27th 2009 Now on Twitter!! http://twitter.com/FoundItAtLast

August 25th 2009:  URGENT APPEAL:  We’ve had an invasion of Garfield figures. Accidentally (!) we’ve accumulated some wonderful Garfield cat figures which are now breeding around the shop. We want more!!!! So far we’ve got most of them from Ebay at a cost of 99p each!! As a guide we’ll happily pay £1 - £3 per Garfield, depending on size, age, condition, etc – the idea being that each figure will live next to and protect its own books. We have a baseball Garfield, a fishing Garfield, a Scottish Garfield, two swimming Garfields. Are there any more out there?!! We could do with a snooker Garfield, a Football Garfield, a Golfing Garfield and a musical / singing Garfield but will accept any!! Feel free to browse the website and maybe we can do an exchange?

We now have another extra website at www.founditatlast.tel where all our contact information is available in one place. This website is especially ideal for anyone who uses mobile phones, blackberrys etc as apparently it’s cheaper and easier to download the data form this page than surfing a large website, so please add this new site to your bookmarks, especially if you’re hiking, cycling!

August 12th 2009: Find Us On Google Maps: FOUNDITATLAST BOOKSHOP’S LOCATION on Google Maps

**AUGUST 5th 2009. We now have all four rooms open!!  We now have a reading room (fiction), a non-fiction room (everything from gardening to autobiographies, cooking, reference books, history, etc), a sports room (hundreds of old videos, books etc from angling to yachting) and a music room with hundreds of old vocal scores, old music videos, etc. Our opening hours are irregular whilst the children are off school so phone first before coming up to visit. Also, please note that the items listed on the website only make up a tiny part of our stock. We have thousands more books here in the shop… Also, please note that tourists, cyclists, hikers, ramblers etc are very welcome to pop in and say hello and to get a drink, look at maps, get local information, etc.

**UPDATE July 2009.  More thanks to everyone who has travelled up to the shop, especially the people from Australia, the USA and Cumbria!! We really appreciate the kind comments, especially those regarding the name – the shop can be VERY hard to find!!!  Carol and I have been busy for the past few weeks getting the upstairs open so very soon we should have FOUR rooms of books, videos and magazines for sale spread over two floors!!! Please note that the books and items on this website are not actually in the shop yet! Also, none of the books in the shop (and we have THOUSANDS!!) are on the website. If you see something on the website which you require feel free to phone and reserve it and collect it when you’re next passing. We now have a dedicated telephone order hotline now on 01573 224042 where you can order anything on the website (and remember all prices include UK P&P).

***UPDATE MAY 2009  Thanks to everyone who has visited us and bought books, prints, jewellery etc!! We’ve worked out some regular opening hours (see below) but can open at other times, depending on kids, school holidays, pets, weather etc. If you are coming to Kelso and would like to look around the shop at any other time than those below let us know and we’ll see what we can do!! As the evenings get lighter we’ll try and open late into the evenings too. Our “lounge” room is now looking very inviting. Hundreds of fiction books, a lovely old rocking chair sitting in a large arch window and a cup of tea or coffee (free of course). We now have our upstairs sale room open with a large range of cooking, history, gardening, vocal scores, autobiographies etc. Steve and Carol

***UPDATE MARCH 2009: We’re opening this Friday (6th March) at 9.30 am. We’re not going to have a grand opening but will just leave a few notes / posters around for people to notice and then we’ll see how many people come up and visit!

***UPDATE FEB 2009  After months of hard work we’ve nearly finished the two downstairs sales rooms! However, if you want to drop in now for a coffee and to buy some fiction, children’s books, sport books, sport videos, books about railways and trains or nautical books, Celtic jewellery, some art prints or music videos then we’d love to see you!!! We’re here at the shop every day from 9.30 in the morning until about midday. We should get the two upstairs sales rooms open in the next couple of weeks when you’ll be able to browse the rest of our stock: Vocal Scores, librettos, autobiographies, history, books about cooking, travel, religion, etc - Thousands of books, and our opening hours will then be a bit longer!! Thanks to everyone in Kelso who has helped us and / or given us such kind words of encouragement. We’re nearly there!

***UPDATE!!! DEC 2008  It has always been my desire to have a shop for all my stuff, especially now that my house is overfull! A new bookshop opened just outside Kelso in 2007 but the proprietor lived too far away to open it regularly. I recently spent three weeks tracking him down and discovered that he had got fed up with the bookselling business and wanted to give it all up to concentrate on his landscape gardening business. I have therefore bought some of his stock (including opera-related vocal scores, plays, librettos etc) and have just taken over the shop with the intention of combining all my stock with the new stock. Although I know nothing about opera I am learning rapidly!!

For the past couple of months, Carol, myself and the kids have been refitting the shop and hope to get it opened in the next month!! Watch this space!!!!.

Steve
