SHOTOVER PRESERVATION SOCIETY

Volunteer Work Party - November 18th, 2001

The task for the afternoon was to clear a small part of the brambles, bracken and rose bay willow herb, on the west facing slope of Sir John's Field.

The management plan is to clear "bays" in the undergrowth, protected by uncleared areas, in order to provide a variety of habitats for wildlife. Left unchecked, the brambles and bracken take over the whole field.

The important thing is to wear the right hat for the job.

In addition to some of the Society's "regulars" we were joined by some enthusiastic helpers from the local Cub and Scout Group, the 37th Oxford. They are working toward gaining the coveted "World Conservation Badge". Some may also achieve the "Adventure Crest Award" and "Naturalist Badge".

Some people just can't be trusted in charge of a wheel-barrow!

The overcast day was not ideal for photography, but did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the willing helpers.

And it would be a waste of a good bonfire, not to cook a few sausages at the end of the afternoon.

Webmaster's Note:
At most work parties we are far too busy to be taking photographs, so we make no apologies for leaving this rather old set of photographs in place on the web site!
