26/11/01 'Cold Water Music' - Aim
So what could I say about the little-known Aim AKA Mancunian Andy Turner that
will do more than hint at the excellence of this down tempo slice of hip-hop?
Well I fear for the time when some ad agency decides to use the title track and I'm
besieged with emails demanding to know what it is. Or who supplies the
gorgeous vocals on Sail (Kate Rogers).
What I can say is that this is a unique British take on hip-hop blending moods, sounds and
samples that no one else has put together.
Aim succeeds in taking the genre somewhere it hasn't been before. Listen to the funkiness
of 'Downstate', the devastatingly smooth way samples
are used on 'The Force', and to the spooky change-up marked by Demonique.
So when you are next blown away by a track featuring a harp, you probably know
where to go first. I just hope they don't waste it on a fish fingers ad...
