Spiritual Literacy
Spiritual Literacy impacts on every
aspect of our lives. Our families, our art, our peace of mind, our old
age, our education - our life goals. The Spiritual Literacy website develops
a common language communicating spiritual awareness and techniques through
major religious traditions. Links include other key sites and libraries
- be a part of the Spiritual Literacy movement.
Welcome!
The Web site is about building a community - a
community of members who share an interest in one or all of the following:
- an interest in the common principles and techniques
of religious practice
- an interest in helping to promote the ideas of
Spiritual Literacy Spiritual Literacy
- an interest in attending or speaking at Spiritual
Literacy meetings
- an interest in experiencing religious experience
A key aspect about the site is that it can act
as a sort of focus. If you click on the
resources boxes you immediately have access to some of the major religious
sites and many hundreds of classic books which you can download and read
at your leisure.
What to do now?
- express an opinion - be apart of the site! We
need people like you!
- if you find that you like the concept of Spiritual
Literacy let us know how we can promote it - it would be wonderful if you
could contribute a skill or resources to the movement. If this is going
to be a movement, we are going to need skills from every walk of
life.
Thank you for visiting! Isn't the Internet a marvellous
way to meet!

About Spiritual Literacy
It is my most fervent belief that spiritual understanding
is a crucial part of making sense of life. I am convinced that:
- if the majority of us had a basic level of spiritual
literacy, rooted in experience, the effect on our culture would be dramatic.
Key issues.
- all the major religions shroud their spiritual
treasures in alienating jargon that puts off all but the most persistant
aspirants.
- most of us need a simple jargon-free handbook
to access the religion most suited to us. I believe that religion can be
taught as a 'technique' and then allowed to develop in a multitude of different
ways dependent upon our character and talent.
- the safest routes to religious experience are
'main stream' and the best reading is classic reading - straight from major
saints / incarnations.
- all we need to do is get together - pool our
skills - lose as much jargon as possible - and get on with the experience
of God (jargon?).
That's me and what I think! What do you think?
Concepts of Spiritual Literacy
I have written a paper on some of the concepts
involved. Please click for details
Life Colleges
I have produced two papers suggesting an approach
to communicating Spiritual Literacy. It would be very exciting to know
firstly what you feel about the concepts and secondly if you are able to
contribute to this project.
