port wing skin pre-bonding: 2008-04-05
Nikon Coolpix 8400
The port wing skin weighed down for pre-bonding the ribs. This is advisable to take up minor difference in rib heights which will cause either poor bonding or waste of Redux if the skin bonding is done in a single operation.

The port wing skin weighed down for pre-bonding the ribs. Actually, you can't tell from the picture whether this is the pre-bonding or the final bonding operation. However, in this picture the long square steel tube at the spar is flat on the skin, as it ought to be. At the final bonding, I did not notice that it had tilted so that the top surface was aligned with the wooden bridges and only the aft corner of the bottom was in contact with the skin. Because the pressure was not held out to the edge of the skin, I believe this led to poor alignment between the edges of the front and rear skins.
